AIM Academy, Conshohocken, PA (Grade 8)

INtroduction

Teachers scheduled an in-person presentation and bird observation activity with an education specialist from Willistown Conservation Trust’s Bird Conservation program. Students were introduced to techniques and tools used by field ornithologists to study migratory birds and the importance of their research.

[This learning module] allowed students to apply skills and integrate or build on content they learned or studied in previous units.

Species Spotlight

Students developed a closer connection to the Wood thrush, a breeding bird common to Pennsylvania, through a variety of activities, including a reading of the book Flute’s Journey and an activity using Motus data to map the migration routes of two Wood thrush.

I could spend at least a month on this subject and take more time to explore birds’ movement data!
